Beach clean-up
On the 9th of September, my class and I went to the Thiruvanmur beach to clean up the area. We went to the beach at 7 am, and it was a very fun experience. This was first being part of a beach clean and through this, I was able to understand ESS better. through this activity, I was able to relate the various pollution problems outlined in my ESS course with what I saw at the beach. The beach mostly consisted of plastic bags and alcohol bottles. The objectives of our activity from an ESS perspective was to understand the main constituents of pollution on the beach and the importance of keeping areas such as beaches clean to protect marine life such as carbs and turtles such ash the Olive Ridley.
Through this activity I garnered great understanding about the beach front ecosystem, common pollutants in the area and from an Eco-eccentric perspective what are the main issues that beaches face.
Through this activity I was able to reflect both on my past actions at beaches as well understand the need to protect the beach environment and that even a small amount of pollution can affect the plethora of ecosystems at the beach
It was a very different experience and I really enjoyed it.
